I THINK the gun you have is fully dedicated to your Nikon AF camera in other words, it’s designed to work specifically with it so basically all you’ll have to do is stick it on your hotshoe, turn it on, and the camera will work out the correct flash exposure, shutter sync speed etc for you in any of your camera’s “auto” modes.

Without having actually seen the flsh in action I would think it is broken from what you ate saying. It also has a backlit LCD control panel, but the light source is at the left edge of the panel, making the right edge quite dim.

Off Camera Use Slave function The switch on the right of the flash marked S OFF is to set the flash into slave mode, normally you would have this off, but if you want to use the flash off the camera this mode detects the flash from your on-camera flash and triggers itself. The Jessops flash should have an instructions sheet. The gun should slide onto the shoe on top of the camera so that the flash faces forward. I suggest you go back to Jessops and get the manual, and then play with it!
